Lisbon is No. 6 in 1A

The Lisbon softball team won six straight games last week, including sweeping their way through the Gladbrook-Reinbeck tournament, and the Lions are now ranked No. 6 in Class 1A in the state.
The Lions are 10-0 overall and coach Bob Bunting is just three wins away (as of press time on Tuesday) from snagging his 1,000th win on the softball diamond.
Monday evening the Lions earned a sweep of visiting Bellevue Marquette.
In game one, the first three innings were scoreless for both teams. The Mohawks got on the board first in the top of the fourth, scoring one run on two hits. Lisbon answered in the bottom of the fourth, when lead-off Brittany Frey was walked and Kelsey Griffiths singled to earn the RBI.
Tied at 1-1, the next inning and a half was empty. Lisbon gained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two runs on three hits with two outs already in the books.
The Lions held on for the 3-1 win behind the pitching of Ali Givens.
In game two, both teams got started a little earlier, with the score tied 1-1 at the end of two innings.
Lisbon took the lead in the fourth inning when Cassie Smith homered over the center field fence, scoring two runs. Then the Lions took control of the game in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on four hits and taking the 8-1 lead.
The Lions ended up winning the game 11-1. McKenna Kilburg was the winning pitcher.
Lisbon plays at Tipton tonight (Thursday, June 7). Friday and Saturday the Lions are at the Davenport West Invitational. Tuesday they host Bettendorf and Wednesday, June 13, they are at Camanche.
