Dorothy Niederhauser, age 102, entered into eternal life Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, May 31, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation was Wednesday, May 30, with a vigil service at Pursel Davis Funeral and Cremation Care in Marshalltown. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorial donations in honor of Dorothy may be directed to Hospice of Mercy, Cedar Rapids, Senior Citizens of Marshalltown or to the family to be dispersed to various organizations. Dorothy was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Rhodes, the daughter of Lee and Ida (Retz) Blink. She graduated from St. Mary's High School and on Feb. 1, 1929, Dorothy was united in marriage to Roy G. Niederhauser at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They lived in Haverhill for 41 years before moving to Marshalltown in 1984. She was a homemaker and loved playing cards, loved to fish with her family and dance with her husband. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
In eternal life Dorothy will be missed by her children, Bob (Lucille) of Anamosa, Jerry of Eagle Grove, and Dick (Kate) of Waterloo, 20 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces Shirley Saveraid and Donna (Merle) Wolken, nephew Merle Niederhauser and nephew-in-law Ed Havelka.
In eternal life Dorothy joins her husband, Roy, parents, Lee and Ida, brother, Ivan Blink, sister, Zita Pegg, niece, Melissa Havelka, daughters-in-law, Denice Niederhauser and Leota Niederhauser, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Hallmark, and especially thank Derek and Tami Sanders, as well as the wonderful and caring people of Hospice of Mercy who made Dorothy's final days comfortable and peaceful. |
