Mechanicsville Library hosts pond walk June 22, 2012
The Mechanicsville Public Library is hosting a pond walk from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in Mechanicsville. The event will raise funds to build a reading garden behind the library.
The tour includes five ponds or water features in Mechanicsville and one just northwest of town. The ponds are all unique and range in size from 125 gallons to 2,300 gallons, said Judy Hartman of the library. There are different fish and plants to view at each home.
One of the participants is Rhett Taylor, who owns Taylor's Ponds & More. He will have information about how ponds are constructed and will also have koi and other fish that he raises for sale.
Participants will need to start at the library at 218 East First St. to purchase a wristband and a map to the ponds. The cost is $5 per person; children under 12 are free. Donations will also be accepted at the library for those who would like to give a little extra to the reading garden fund. |
