Teubel will run as a Hawkeye June 22, 2012
Multi-sport athlete and 2012 Mount Vernon High School graduate Will Teubel will be running track for the University of Iowa. The sprinter signed his letter of intent Wednesday June 13 in Mount Vernon.
Teubel said he was considering Division I schools Iowa State and Northern Iowa as well as Iowa. Those are all great programs, Teubel said, but he grew up a Hawkeye fan. He said another factor was his contact with the coaches at Iowa, where Teubel will be working with NCAA champion hurdler Joey Woody.
Teubel knew he wanted to run track in college. He thought he would attend UNI and try to make the team as a walk-on. Those plans changed after the Iowa State Meet, however, where Teubel won the 400 and 800 open, anchored the championship 4x800 relay, all in school-record-setting times and the sixth-place 4x400. The times posted and attention from coaches were evidence that Teubel was capable of competing in Division I.
He considering a career in physical therapy and will study kinesiology.
