School board doesn’t take action on changing former board’s roundabout decision

Mount Vernon School Board president Tom Wieseler brought up the issue of roundabouts at last week's school board meeting, asking board members if they wanted to revisit a previous board's decision to support the roundabout at the intersection of 10th Avenue and Hwy. 30.
"With the bypass back on the Department of Transportation's five-year plan, I just wanted to ask if you wanted to change your support," Wieseler said. "We wrote a letter back when Jeff Schwiebert was still superintendent. Is this something we want to discuss?"
Board members were unsure in that they had not read the letter. The board's letter of support was done in 2008.
"Was safety the primary reason for support?" asked board member Paul Morf. "I think as long as what was stressed was student safety, regardless of which option was chosen, I'm okay with it."
At the conclusion of the discussion, board members did not seem to think the issue should be included on a future agenda.
