Senior group leads Lisbon August 03, 2012 · Crystal Eskelsen
The Lisbon Lions have made state tournament trips an everyday occurrence this year.
"Football really set the tone," said Lisbon senior Ben Knake, referring to the state title last fall. "There was just an expectation to get to state in everything."
Knake and his fellow seniors, Kolbi Kohl, Marshall Morgan, Jordan Bahl and Logan Venenga, just completed a showing at the state baseball tournament in Des Moines.
Leading the team with traditions such as new haircuts for the tournament or fancy wrist taping, these seniors were leaders on the field and off.
"We try to mix it up," Knake said. "After taping my wrists like that for the quarterfinals win, I kind of superstitiously had to do it again in the semis."
The senior boys have led the Lions to a state title in football, an appearance in the state basketball tournament, a strong performance at state wrestling, a trip to the state track meet and a state baseball appearance all in their last year as Lisbon athletes.
"We had a good group of seniors," Knake said. "We knew what it took to achieve. It was a good sending off year for us." |
