New teacher Lisbon: Keri Speidel August 24, 2012
Keri Speidel, 31, of Lisbon, is the new K-8 art and high school multimedia teacher.
A North Liberty native now living in Lisbon, her family includes her husband, Lonnie, and children Baylor, 7, and in first grade, and Brody, 5 and in alternative kindergarten.
She graduated from Iowa City West High School in 1999 and Cornell College in 2003.
Speidel's previous teaching experience was at Highland Middle and High School in Riverside, and at the Mount Vernon alternative school.
She said she was attracted to teaching because of her love of learning, art and children. "I couldn't think of a more rewarding career, getting to do the two things I love: art and teaching," she said.
She explained her teaching philosophy: "Being passionate about the subject you teach, really loving and caring and serving the kids you get to work, with and just making learning fun."
Outside of school, she enjoys time with her family, running, kettlebells, her art and playing cornet in the Eastern Iowa Brass Band.
