Talented MV freshmen add depth
April 05, 2013 · Crystal Eskelson

The Mount Vernon boys' golf team is eager for warming temperatures and greener greens so that they can hit the course and prepare to compete.

The Mustangs have four returning letterwinners from 2012, including sophomore Andy DeCamp and seniors Kyle Durgin, Luke Hansen and Lukas Lengwin.

Waiting and working to make an impact on this Mustang team are junior James Edge, sophomore Riley Hauser and freshmen Connor Herrmann and Tommy Hook.

"We have a lot of potential in some of our younger players," said Mick Angel, Mount Vernon head coach. "We have a lot of depth this season, and excellent senior leadership."

Mount Vernon competes in the WaMaC, which always ends up being a great preparation for postseason action.

"The WaMaC is always competitive," Angel said.

The Mustangs compete to today (Thursday, April 4) at DeWitt Central against the Sabres and Solon. Friday, they host West Delaware at Kernoustie Golf Club, and Monday Mount Vernon is at Anamosa.
