MV-L earns victory over Beckman
May 03, 2013 · Crystal Eskelsen

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon girls' soccer team hosted Dyersville Beckman last week and earned a 2-0 win over the visiting Blazers.

"The girls communicated well and worked as a team," said Buck Oelrich, Mount Vernon-Lisbon head coach.

Freshman Annie See played her first game at goalie after Emma Bradbury was injured at practice.

See played again as goalie against Solon Friday evening.

"Annie had several truly outstanding saves," Oelrich said. "It was exciting from a goalkeeping perspective."

The Spartans defeated the Mustangs, 6-1.

Solon led by a slim 1-0 margin at the halftime break.

"We held up really well in the first half," Oelrich said.

In the second half, Solon opened up the game with a fast midfielder and several great finishers.

"It was like we were at a finishing clinic," Oelrich said.

The Spartans cruised to the 6-1 victory.

Mount Vernon-Lisbon is playing at Western Dubuque tonight (Thursday, May 2). Tomorrow they are at Iowa City Regina.
