Archers continue raising money for St. Jude’s, prep for national championships

Mount Vernon Archery hosted another charity shoot at the First Street Community Center gym on Friday, April 26, to prepare for the national tournament in May.

Forty archers competed and raised $114 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Check the progress or give a donation on behalf of the Mount Vernon Archery Club at http://tiny.cc/ mvastjude. The club has raised more than $500 in donations and entry fees to the fund.

Coach Tom Wilkinson challenged archers to reach for their personal bests and higher. Archers who meet the challenge will get free shots at his prized archery hat. Winners for chances to shoot his hat on Tuesday's practice were: Logan Kelly, Blaise Anton, Nick Garrelts, Whitney Woods, Drew Keller, Cheyenne Yerkes, Christian Tanberg, Alex Deeb, Aaron Barnhart, Alex Deeb, Brandon Lochner, Collin Hallier, Colton Hof, Connor Myers, Karly Connolly, Kayla Hicks, Madeline Morrical, Nathaniel Barnhart and Rachel Lochner.

The archery club also competes in a National NASP E-tournament.

Last week the club won two bows, arrows and a bow rack in a national drawing. The club travels to the National NASP Championships in Louisville, Ky., May 9-10.
