Lisbon sluggers find success this week

Lisbon softball sluggers Alexa Moothart and Cassie Smith combined for six home runs - three each - this past week.

The Lions were 4-3 in recent play and continue to be among the top ranked teams in Class 1A, currently sitting at No. 8.

Lisbon swept its doubleheader with Calamus-Wheatland this week.

In the first game against the Warriors the Lions hit three home runs - two by Moothart and one by Smith - and scored runs in every inning except for the second.

Lisbon won that game 9-1. The Lions won the second game, 7-4, scoring the seven runs on five hits.

The Lions also won two games at the Humboldt tournament, beating Algona and Humboldt.

Lisbon's losses this week came at the hands of Mount Vernon and Camanche.

The Lions are at Preston today (Thursday, June 20) for a doubleheader. Friday and Saturday, Lisbon is at the Marshalltown tournament. Monday they host Midland in a doubleheader.

RECAP: Mount Vernon scored on an overthrow to first base in the second inning and the Lions couldn't answer, despite several attempts in the seventh inning. Givens pitched for Lisbon and walked just one batter. The Lions were led by C.Light, who was 2-for-2 at bat.

RECAP: The Lions had a great night at the plate, hitting three home runs in Game One. Moothart had two homers and Smith hit one. Moothart was 4-for-4 at the plate and had three RBI. Givens pitched all seven innings, striking out three and allowing just one run to score.

RECAP: Lisbon had just five hits but it was enough to get the win. The Lions were led by Moore, who was 1-for-3, including a double, earning one RBI and scoring twice. Montgomery led Lisbon from the mound, pitching seven innings and walking just one.
