Man faces charges after crash

A California man is facing multiple charges following an in-town crash this month.
The Mount Vernon Police Department reports that Juan Andres Flores, 22, of Alta Loma, Calif., was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, failure to maintain control, striking fixtures, leaving the scene of an accident and operating a vehicle without the owner's consent on June 8. Flores has been a student at Cornell College.
The police report that at about 3:20 a.m. that day, emergency responders were called to a rollover in the 200 block of 7th Avenue N.W. in Mount Vernon. They found a 2010 Dodge Ram pickup on its side in a resident's yard, and the occupants had fled the scene.
After further investigation, officers located the occupants of the vehicle, and identified the driver as Flores.
Officers made contact with the owner of the vehicle, and determined he was not aware Flores was driving the vehicle.
According to police, the collision investigation revealed that Flores was driving too fast when trying to turn onto 7th Avenue N.W. from 1st Street. He lost control of the vehicle, jumped the curb on the west side of 7th Avenue, hit a street sign in the 100 block of 7th Avenue N.W., re-entered the roadway, and crossed 7th Avenue N.W. The vehicle jumped the curb on the east side of the road, crossed 2nd Street N.W., struck a tree in the 600 block of 2nd Street N.W., causing the vehicle to roll onto the driver's side and go through the residential fence. The vehicle narrowly missed striking the residence at 202 7th Ave. N.W. Damage is estimated at approximately $19,500.
A passenger in the vehicle was identified and found to have sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
