Lisbon wins five more
June 28, 2013 · Crystal Eskelsen

The Lisbon baseball team is currently 20-3 overall, winning five straight this week with wins over Preston, North Cedar and Camanche.

The Lions are now ranked ninth in Class 1A.

It took nine innings in one of the Lions' games against Preston. With the score tied at 6-6 after seven innings, the teams had to go into extra innings.

In the eighth inning, both teams put two runs on the scoreboard. Lisbon started with Connor Woodward reaching base on a single to left field. Then Colton Krob doubled to center field, moving Woodward to third.

Finally, Ryan Light hit a single to right field, bringing both Woodward and Krob home.

In the top of the ninth inning, Preston didn't score any runs as the Lion defense made several great plays, including catching a line drive hit at the pitcher and throwing out a base-stealing runner.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Lisbon's Austin Springsteen was walked to start the inning. Woodward was the next batter and he hit a sacrifice bunt to move Springsteen to second. Krob hit a short one to the pitcher and was thrown out at first, but Springsteen moved to third.

Again, Light came through with a single to right field, scoring Springsteen and winning the game for the Lions, 9-8.

Lisbon won its second game against Preston by single run as well, 5-4, but it didn't take extra innings to finish that one.

The Lions were scheduled to play Class 2A, No. 10 Monticello Tuesday. Today (Thursday June 27), Lisbon hosts Northeast. Friday they are at Springville and Monday the Lions host Bellevue. Tuesday they are at Cedar Valley Christian.
