Lisbon wrestlers earn success at camp, tournaments

Members of the Lisbon wrestling team attended the 2013 Nebraska team camp June 16-20.
Wrestlers attending were Zack Fiser (Cedar Rapids Prairie), Colten Smith, Nick Williams, Caden Moore, Jack Butteris, Kaden Kilburg, Tanner Allen, Chase McLaughlin, Matt Montgomery, Tanner Krob, Logan Takes, Slator Johnson (TX) and Andrew Johnson (CA). Slick Montgomery and Brad Smith attended the camp as coaches.
The camp consisted of folkstyle training sessions and dual meets. More than 400 wrestlers attended the camp from all over the country, with 24 teams represented. The Lisbon team finished sixth out of 24 teams, wrestling 12 duals over the week.

• 2nd - lost to Dowling, Catholic, IA 30-28
• 3rd - lost to Edmond (Okla) 51-16
• 4th - beat Harrisburg (S. Dakota) 48-9
• 5th - beat Johnston B, IA Cozad (NE) 48-27
• 6th - beat Yukon Oklahoma 77-3
• 7th - beat SMS (Kansas)Rockford ILL 61-3
• 8th - beat Oskaloosa, IA 49-28
• 9th - beat Legacy Colorado 61-13
• 10th - beat Perry B, (OK)Blair NE 55-12
• 11th - beat Century New Salem (Bismark SD) 43-30
• For fifth place, Lisbon lost 43-23 to Johnston, IA.
On Wednesday, July 17, there was an all star dual, which consisted of kids with the best records throughout the camp. Lisbon had two representatives wrestle in the All Star Dual - Chase McLaughlin and Carter Happel.
Saturday, June 15, three members of the Lisbon wrestling team competed in the Cadet Freestyle Northern Plains Regionals. Six states are represented in this regional.
Wrestling that day was Jack Butteris (Cadet 120), Chase McLaughlin (Cadet 126), and Carter Happel (Cadet 132). Butteris and McLaughlin did not place.
Happel won his bracket, beating Micah Johnson (WI), Louie Sanders (MN), Michael Peters (IL), and Fritz Schierl (WI). Happel will be competing in the Cadet freestyle nationals in Fargo, N.D., July 16-20.
Matthew Montgomery (220 pounds) competed at Junior Freestyle state, June 2 (1-2), and Junior Northern Plains Regionals, May 5 (1-2).
