Lisbon shortstop Ali Givens was named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-Stars after being nominated by Lion head coach Bob Bunting.
Givens is the daughter of Andy and Jody Givens and has been the starting shortstop for Lisbon since her eighth grade year. She has also pitched for the Lions.
She has earned all-conference honors in each of her seasons as a Lion and last season she was named player of the year in the Big East Conference.
Softball is not Givens' only sport. She was also all-conference in volleyball and played basketball and ran track.
She was also her class valedictorian and a member of the National Honor Society.
Givens was named to the red all-star team and played last week under the coaching of Rick Dillinger of North Polk and Frank Huston of Ottumwa.
"We had two practices before we played," said Givens. "We did some live hitting and the coaches got a chance to figure out where each person would play."
Givens was put at third base. She was accustomed to shortstop and pitcher, but played well at third.
"The most memorable part of the experience was getting to meet and play with so many great softball players," Givens said. "We had a lot of fun on and off the field. We got to know each other really well. I made a lot of new friends."
Givens will study nursing at Coe College this fall, and hopes to play softball.
