August 23, 2013 · Cathy Boggs

The recent release of the movie "42" about Jackie Robinson and the 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers' season has renewed interest in this great baseball player and his life.

If your interest has been piqued, we have many items for you to check out. We have purchased "42" as well as "The Jackie Robinson Story," the 1950 biography starring Jackie Robinson as himself.

If you would like to read about Robinson and have a more in-depth perspective on his life, books on Jackie Robinson include: Jackie Robinson: Face, Sports, and the American Dream by Joseph Dorinson and Joram Warmund; The Jackie Robinson Reader: Perspectives on and American Hero by Jules Tygiel; Great Time Coming: The Life of Jackie Robinson From Baseball to Birmingham by David Falkner; Jackie Robinson: A Biography by Arnold Rampersad, and Blackout: The Untold Story of Jackie Robinson's First Spring Training by Chris Lamb. For our younger readers, we have First in the Field: Baseball Hero Jackie Robinson by Derek Dingle and Jackie Robinson by Kenneth Rundeen.
