Early childcare director a MVHS grad

The new early childhood daycare director for Mount Vernon schools is Mount Vernon High School graduate Maura Holland (2008).
Holland, an associate in Mount Vernon's Mini-Mustangs daycare program since the fall of 2012, took over this past June as director of the summer childcare/kids camp program when former child are director Elizabeth Sowell was out of state.
Sowell then resigned as childcare director effective July 12 to search for a position as a teacher in an early childhood environment. Holland's salary is $16.66 per hour.
The new associate at Mount Vernon's Alternative Education (Alt Ed) Center is Mount Vernon graduate Mike Studt (1972). He replaces former Alt Ed associate Cynthia Madsen, who resigned in May to take a job teaching physics in New Jersey.
A retired educator, Studt had previously been a teacher, coach and administrator in various school districts, including Earlham (west of Des Moines) and Mormon Trail (in Garden Grove). His last position was as principal at Lynnville-Sully High School. This past year he was a long-term substitute at Mount Vernon Middle School for math teacher Abby Bock. His salary is $12.92 per hour.
The new assistant girls' track coach is Margo Massey, a Mount Vernon High School social studies teacher. Massey takes over the coaching job from Amy Marshall, Lisbon's former seventh and eighth grade math teacher who resigned at the end of this past school year to take a job teaching math at Center Point. Massey's coaching salary is $2,183.
Three new associates have also been hired. Their pay is $12.92 per hour.
Heidi Ryan of Mount Vernon is a new full-time elementary associate. She has a B.A. in health and leisure services from the University of Northern Iowa (1992), with therapeutic recreation as her major area of study.
Mount Vernon graduate Angie (Angela) Williams of Cedar Rapids is a new full-time middle school associate. She comes to Mount Vernon from Lisbon schools, where she had been a para-professional since the fall of 2011.
Lisbon graduate Lisa Flockhart of Stanwood is a new half-time middle school associate. She is replacing Val Binsfield, who is now a full-time high school associate. Since March 2012 Flockhart had been a one-to-one associate and a library assistant in the Olin Consolidated School District.
Kathy Kenney is a new middle school kitchen worker. She replaces Carry Coons, who resigned in early July to move on to other opportunities. Kenney's pay is $13.09 per hour.
