Volunteer celebration set for Sept. 12
August 23, 2013
The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG), a Main Street Organization, will be hosting a volunteer roundup picnic Thursday, Sept. 12, from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m., at Memorial Park. This event celebrates CDG volunteers and recognizes outstanding contributions in the form of CDG Volunteer of the Year, CDG Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year honors.
This year's honorees are: Volunteer of the Year - Trude Elliott; Business of the Year - Chameleon's Pub & Grub; Citizen of the Year - Tom Wieseler.
In addition, CDG will be presenting a Committee of the Year honor. The Project Bright Idea Committee is being recognized with this honor.
"Teamwork, collaboration and the committee structure are integral to the success of the CDG," said CDG director Joe Jennison. "These honors aim to acknowledge some of the outstanding volunteer work that has been done by our more than 450 community volunteers in the past year. We hope that our entire community of volunteers comes out to honor these few."
The CDG will also recognize outgoing president Deb Herrmann, and outgoing board members Alex DiCicco, who served from 2011-2013, and Ed Sauter, who is leaving the board of directors after six years. Sauter is a founding member of the CDG board of directors.
The CDG received tremendous response to its call for nominees, Jennison said.
"We were blown away," he said. "We're truly grateful for all the nominations and especially grateful for the many, many volunteers who give so much to this community."
