Dog park takes shape
The off-leash dog park in Mount Vernon's Nature Park is ready to be used, though it is not completely finished.
The fence at the Nancy Doreen Huffman Dog Park was finished the first week in August. The city put mulch in the entryway and installed picnic tables. Planned, but not completed amenities include receptacles for droppings, a water source/fountain as well as signage.
Parks and rec director Matt Siders reported at the city council meeting Monday that the park was already seeing a lot of use. He saw six dogs there one morning.
Siders hopes to schedule a grand opening in mid-September. He said the park committee is planning another dog swim fundraiser at the city pool, which will be Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The park is located in Mount Vernon Nature Park, close to the quarry.
Lisbon changes meeting
The Lisbon School Board last week decided to change its regular monthly meeting.
Instead of the second Monday of each month, the regular meeting will be held on the second Thursday, starting Sept. 12. See story on Page A10.
