Chorus holds open rehearsal
August 23, 2013

Sweet Adelines International's Cedar Sounds Barbershop Chorus is holding an open rehearsal Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Lisbon United Methodist Church. Refreshments will be served

The chorus is nearing the end of a five-community tour of open rehearsals to share the fun and artistry involved in singing four-part harmony, barbershop-style, with women looking for an outlet to express their vocal talent. This acappella art form is one of three singing styles originating in America.

Any woman of average singing ability, with or without vocal training, will find a part that fits her voice range with the help of the chorus director and leaders. All visiting voices will be evaluated to make certain the appropriate part is selected for her range, that she possesses minimal or controllable vibrato and is capable of matching musical tones. If the guest knows "Happy Birthday" and can go up and down the musical scale, she's all set, organizers say.

Cedar Sounds performs regularly throughout east central Iowa, offering entertainment at civic events and charitable functions, in addition to promoting harmony and friendship among women. Contact Janet Walker at jwalker1282@imonmail. com for more information.
