Cole Corner: Prize for read and ride sweepstakes a bike
September 08, 2013 · Grace Chamberlain

Books and bicycles have a lot in common. They are both results of very important social-developments, they connect people (bikes by transportation, books by information), and, most importantly, they both have the ability to take you to places you've never been before.

So in celebration of that, the Cole Library is hosting its first Read and Ride sweepstakes. Read a book, write a review, and you could win a Next mountain bike!

Read and Ride seeks to highlight teen-focused literature, and is open to any middle school or high school student in the Mount Vernon-Lisbon area.

All you have to do is fill out a review form about your favorite book or one you have recently read, and submit it before the deadline. We are open to all types of books, so choose from any genre: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or graphic novel.

The program started Wednesday (Sept. 4) and goes through Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Although the sweepstake's rules are very simple, this program does come with a catch: all reviewed books must be in the library's collection.

Once the drawing is over, we will use the reviews in a display showcasing popular books in our Young Adult collection.

If you have a book you want to review, but don't know if we have it, you can look it up in our online catalog at, or come in and ask a circulation worker to help you find it.

Review sheets can be picked up at the library or downloaded from our website or Facebook page. Once you've completed the form, return it to the first floor circulation desk, or email it to

The winner will be selected randomly from the submitted entries.

Interested in our bike? Come check out it out; we have it hanging in our Young Adult section. It was generously donated by UnityPoint Jones Regional Medical Center.

Want to take part but don't know what to read? Here are a few suggestions:

Harry Potter; All the Broken Pieces; The Hunger Games; 14 Reasons Why The Lightening Thief; The Book Thief; Divergent; The Maze Runner; Cinder; In Darkness; Maximum Ride; Where Things Come Back;

Artemis Fowl; Everlost; The Alchemist; Bleach; Magyk; The 5th Wave; Wonder; Seraphina; The Fault in Our Stars; Alex Wood Versus the Universe; Leviathan; Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
