Marian A. Kavka

Marian A. Kavka, 82, of Lisbon, died of pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Marian was born Nov. 29, 1930, to Gale and Martha (Reinemund) McClean at home in Muscatine County. Marian graduated from Wilton High School in 1948. She received her bachelor's degree from Augustana College in 1952 and later her master's and Ed.S. degrees from Middle Tennessee State University. She married Frank R. Kavka on Jan. 29, 1955. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1991.
Marian retired as the director of a group home for girls for the Tennessee Department of Youth Development in 1996.
She was a member of Chapter DT of P.E.O. and the Seeds of Faith Lutheran Church, Lisbon. She enjoyed knitting and sewing. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 13, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. Services were Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as casket bearers were George McClean, Greg McClean, Jim Davies, Dan Davies, Donny Rickert and Melvin Wieben.
Interment took place at the Melpine Cemetery, Muscatine County.
Marian is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Steven, and his wife, Nancy Kavka, of Rochester, Minn.; her sisters, Margery and her husband Rod Davies of Mount Vernon and Jean and her husband Don Rickert of Lisbon; and her sister-in-law, Shirley McClean of Moline, Ill. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, George McClean.
Memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Homes of Muscatine or the American Cancer Society in her memory.
