Helen Ann Gosma Brisbin, 95, of Moline, Ill., formerly of Davenport, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline

Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., Davenport. The family will greet visitors from 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. A private family burial follows at Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting Helen's family with arrangements.

Helen was born Aug. 29, 1918, in Davenport, the daughter of John and Mamie (Goetsch) Stutz. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1937.

Helen married Albert W. Gosma in 1937 in Davenport. Helen and Al operated Al's Griddle in Clinton, Iowa, for many years. Her employment also included secretarial work at Nash Finch, Davenport, and for the credit bureaus in both Clinton and Davenport. Albert preceded Helen in death on Sept. 11, 1968.

Helen later married Richard F. Brisbin of Mount Vernon, Iowa, in 1979. They enjoyed many years of quality life on their acreage, Countryside, Mount Vernon. They later moved to Davenport. Richard died Sept. 15, 2001.

Helen's faith was most important in her life. She was raised in the Lutheran church and was a long-time member of both St. Mark Lutheran Church and, more recently, St. Paul Lutheran Church, both in Davenport.

Helen's heart belonged to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She devoted her life to them as a mentor, caregiver, cheerleader and friend.

The family gives thanks to the staffs of Rosewood Care Center, Moline, and Beacon of Hope Hospice, Davenport, for their supportive and compassionate care.

Those left to honor her memory include: sons, John (Heather) Gosma, Davenport, and James (Debbie) Gosma, Palm Coast, FL; daughters, Jane (John) Reitz, Johnston, IA, and Julie (Jim) Irish, Moline; stepdaughter, Holly (Gary) Anhalt, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Charles) Abplanalp, Evanston, IL, Emily (Anthony) Stoops, Norman, OK, Sarah (Jared) Parker, Columbia, IL, James (Megan) Gosma, Alpharetta, GA, Gretchen (Joe) Scott, Roswell, GA, Megan (Bain) Hayes, Golden, CO, John Gosma, Marietta, GA, Katie (Doug) Sebastian, Ankeny, IA, and Jenna Reitz, Grimes, IA; step-grandchildren, Ben (Shawn) Anhalt, South Deerfield, MA, Heidi (Shawn) Cassels, Austin, TX, Peter Anhalt, St. Paul, MN, Tom (Laura) Irish, Davenport, and Anne (Joel) Bohnsack, Taylor Ridge, IL; ten great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and her best friend from childhood, Fran Andre, Davenport.Helen's parents, her husbands, and her beloved sister, Elizabeth Lindsley, preceded her in death.
