Cole Corner: Children’s Choice Award books available
September 28, 2013 · Cathy Boggs
The Iowa Children's Choice Award books have arrived and are on display in the Children's Room. The Iowa Children's Choice Award is sponsored by the Iowa Association of School Librarians. The award is unique because it gives children an opportunity to suggest the books for the yearly reading list and then choose from this list the final book to receive the award.
The purpose of the award is to encourage children to read more books, to be discriminating readers choosing worthwhile books to read, to provide an avenue for discussions between teachers, parents, and children about books and authors, and finally to recognize the writers who are writing quality books for children.
At Cole Library we order these titles in an effort to support the schools and families who are participating. We hope that both parents and children will check out these books to read and talk about. You can even have a family vote to see what title you think should be the next Iowa Children's Choice Book. Get involved and get reading - it can be a family affair.
