MVLXC is sticking together
October 04, 2013 · Crystal Eskelsen

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon cross country teams really stuck together as they raced at the tough course in Anamosa last Saturday at Jones County Central Park.

Five of the Mustang girls' top six runners finished within three seconds of each other.

Four of the top five boys finished within 21 seconds of each other.

This was a strong effort for both teams, ending in second place finishes for both Mount Vernon-Lisbon squads.

The boys finished second to Class 2A, No. 1 Monticello. The Panthers totaled 23 points, while the Class 3A, No. 11 Mustangs had 89.

Mount Vernon-Lisbon was led by Jack Young, who finished 10th overall with a time of 18:19.

The girls were led by Kendra Schmidt, who was fifth overall in a time of 16:44, almost a full minute ahead of the pack of Mustang runners.

Mount Vernon-Lisbon, which is currently No. 11 in Class 3A, finished second to the No. 1 team in their class, Davenport Assumption.

The Knights had four runners in the top 10 and finished with a team score of 22. The Mustangs had a team total of 87, edging out Class 3A, No. 10 Solon, 2A, No. 5 Cascade and 2A, No. 12 Monticello.

Mount Vernon-Lisbon was scheduled to run at Iowa City West this past Tuesday (results weren't available at press time). This coming Tuesday, they are at West Delaware.
