EIBB debuts new music director
October 11, 2013

The Eastern Iowa Brass Band (EIBB) will introduce its new music director and conductor at the band's Fall Subscription concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Mount Vernon district auditorium.

Alex Beamer was selected as music director and conductor from among three candidates after a lengthy process that included several interviews, a conducting audition and deliberation by the EIBB Board of Directors.

Board president, Bob Driggs noted, "We had three very talented people from which to choose. The board was seeking a person that had strong leadership skills with a variety of conducting experiences that could bring the band to a higher level of performance."

Beamer will share the conducting responsibilities Sunday afternoon with the band's interim director, Paul Waech, who is the band's principal cornet player. He volunteered to direct the band through the summer while the permanent director was sought.

Beamer assumes full charge of the band after this weekend the prepares for the U.S. Open Brass Band Competition to be held Nov. 2 in St. Charles, Ill.
