MV sees changing of the guard

There were many new faces at the Mount Vernon school board organizational meeting, held Sept. 23 in the high school library just before the second board meeting of the month.
Three new board members who were elected Sept. 10 - Tara Brokovich, Sherry Grunder and Lori Merlak - replaced the three members who did not seek reelection, Tom Wieseler, Paul Morf and John Cochrane. The other remaining members of the board, whose seats weren't up this election, are: Shannon Amundson, Darrin Gage, Virginia Roudabush and Mark Weldon.
Before the new board was called to order, the continuing board members publicly acknowledged the three outgoing board members and thanked them for their service to the board. They also presented a contribution to the Mount Vernon Community School District Foundation in their names.
The first order of business after the new board was called to order was swearing in the three new board members. Board secretary Matt Burke administered the oath to them.
The board then elected its president for 2013-14. Gage was elected, continuing in the position he has held for a year. Weldon was elected vice-president, also continuing in the position he has held for a year.
