Municipal voting under way
October 11, 2013
Early voting by absentee ballot has begun in Linn County for the regular city elections.
People may vote in-person at the Election Services Department of the Auditor's Office in the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. S.W. in Cedar Rapids. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to voting an in person absentee ballot, voters may request an absentee ballot by mail. Absentee ballot request forms can be downloaded from the Election Now website (www.LinnCountyElections.org/now). Requestors may also call (892-5300, ext. 1) or email (elections@LinnCounty.org) the office to have a form sent to them.
The last day to request an absentee ballot be mailed is Nov. 1. Nov. 4 is the last day to vote by absentee in the auditor's office. Election day is Nov. 5.
In addition to city elections, the question of whether to extend the one percent Local Option Sales and Services Tax for a period of 10 years will be on the ballot for the cities of Cedar Rapids, Fairfax, Hiawatha, Marion, Robins and the Linn County portion of Walford. All remaining cities in Linn County, including Lisbon and Mount Vernon, and the unincorporated areas of the county, have already approved this tax that will be in effect on July 1, 2014, and therefore will not vote on this question.
