Beth A. Hrabak Smith, 52, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, in her Mount Vernon home with her family by her side.
Mass of Christian burial was 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at St. John the Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, by Rev. Jack Flaherty. Beth's visitation was Monday, Nov. 11, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the church. Beth was buried in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.
Beth is survived by her husband, David, of Mount Vernon; four children, Abigail (Colby) Newkirk of North Liberty, Alex Smith of Hiawatha, and Jenna and Haley Smith, both of Mount Vernon; two grandsons, Logan and Liam Newkirk; her father, Dennis Hrabak of Cedar Rapids; three siblings, Nick (Dawn) Hrabak, Stacy (Bob) Davis, and Jeremy (Janet) Hrabak, all of Cedar Rapids; and her many pets.
Preceding Beth in death were her mother, Lorraine Hrabak; grandparents; special great-aunt, Florence Steiner; and father-in-law, James Smith.
Beth was born March 11, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Dennis and Lorraine Vosatka Hrabak. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1979 and attended Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids. She married David Smith on Jan. 20, 1989, in Mount Vernon. Beth worked for the Tom Riley Law Firm, the Lynch, Dallas Law Firm, the Cedar Valley Humane Society, and Dr. Terry Moore, DVM, all of Cedar Rapids.
Beth enjoyed being active in the Catholic Church, serving as a Sacristan and taking the Eucharist to the nursing home. She was a friend to all creatures great and small, and many animals owed their lives to her. Most of all, Beth loved her husband and children and adored her grandsons.
Memorials in Beth's honor may be given to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, 7411 Mount Vernon Rd. S.E., Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
