‘Catching Fire’ pre-party, tech workshop planned
November 18, 2013 · Grace Chamberlain
November is a great month for Young Adult literature. The new movie based on Mark Zusak's award-winning book, The Book Thief, is now in theaters. We have the third and final novel of Neal Shusterman's "Unwind" series, UnSouled, on our shelves, and the third Legend book was released on the Nov. 5.
November is also a great month for teen activities here at the Cole Library; this month we are hosting two awesome teen programs, all in one week!
First off, we're throwing a preparatory party in celebration of the release of the movie "Catching Fire." This movie is based on the second book in Suzanne Collins' "Hunger Games" series, and follows Katniss and Peeta as they embark on their Victor's Tour and then are thrown back into the arena for the 75th Annual Hunger Games.
To prepare for the movie's thrilling release on Nov. 22, we'll watch the first "Hunger Games" movie and eat Hunger Games themed snacks. Attendees are invited to wear costumes or other Hunger Games accessories.
Our "Catching Fire" pre-party will be on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in room 108. May the odds be ever in your favor!
Following all the "Hunger Games" festivities, we'll be implementing a brand new, technology-based program series called Teen Tech Workshops.
On Friday, Nov. 22, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. we'll have our first workshop in the series: Make Your Own Computer Game. During this session, we'll teach middle school and high school students how to design and create their own computer games using Scratch, a free, online program from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
We'll also provide take-home packets, so participants can continue to use and build games on their own.
Don't miss out on these two fantastic events. RSVP to 895-4271 to reserve your seat at the movie or spot at a computer.
