MV’s Evans receives Masons final degree

James W. Evans of Mount Vernon received the Masonic 33rd degree in a ceremony at the Des Moines Scottish Rite recently.
The 33rd degree is the final and highest degree in Scottish Rite Masonry granted in the Orient of Iowa biannually to ten 32nd degree KCCH Masons (Knights Commander Court of Honor). Keynote speaker for the special honors dinner was Gov. Terry Branstad, who spoke on leadership.
To be eligible for the 33rd degree, people must be a 32nd degree KCCH Master Mason with extraordinary service to Masonry and to the community. James has been Master of Mount Vernon Lodge 112, treasurer of the Valley of Cedar Rapids Scottish Rite, member of jurisprudence committee and scholarship committee for the Grand Lodge of Iowa, and on the endowment committee for the El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids. Jim has is also active in a wide variety of other community organizations.
