Cole Library: Pinhook or Mount Vernon? Book details ‘lost’ cities
February 14, 2014
Linda Betsinger McCann will be speaking about her book, Lost Linn County, at the Cole Library this Sunday at 2 p.m. She will discuss her book and read portions of it.
Lost Linn County details the history, location and other information of the almost 200 named locations in Linn County that won't be found on maps today. Some of the names were nicknames or previous names, such as Pinhook for Mount Vernon. Other names were simply post offices, such as Palisades and Rural. Some were spelling changes, such as the various different spellings for Prairieburg show.
McCann will have copies of the book, plus her other books, for sale. She has written five county books in the Vanished Towns of the Cedar Valley series, plus a history of the electric train that ran between Waverly and Cedar Rapids.
McCann enjoys speaking to schools, libraries and other groups. She can be reached at email@example.com.
McCann has begun research on the Civilian Conservation Corps camps and is looking for people to interview who had experiences with them.
