Pauline Allen, 99, of New Windsor, Ill., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Genesis Senior Living Center in Aledo, Ill.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha, Ill. Burial is in the New Windsor Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the funeral home, where memorials may be left to the Genesis Senior Living Center or New Windsor Presbyterian Church. Pauline was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Martelle, to William and Edythe Goudy Stewart. She graduated from Martelle High School in 1932 and married Fred William Allen on Aug. 23, 1941, in Martelle. He died Jan. 8, 1997.
She worked briefly at the former Anderson Market in New Windsor. She and her husband purchased the former Johnnie's Drug Store in New Windsor and operated it as Allen's Sundries for a few years. They also owned and operated Fred's Standard Service in New Windsor, where she was bookkeeper and secretary until retiring in 1999.
Pauline was a member of the New Windsor Presbyterian Church and its Golden Circle and Women's Guild.
She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and flower gardening.
She is survived by two daughters: Sandra Hay of Aledo and Sharon (David) Otten of LeClaire; one son, Martin Allen of New Windsor; one daughter-in-law, Judy Allen of New Windsor; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Max Allen; and three sisters.
