Genevieve Skotowski
March 07, 2014

Genevieve Skotowski, 87, died March 4, 2014, at the Solon Nursing Care Center in Solon.

A funeral mass was set for Wednesday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rockford, Ill. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Rockford. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

Genevieve was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Poland, the daughter of Valeria and Edward Marcinkowski. She married Stanley Skotowski on Oct. 12, 1947, in Hannover, Germany. Both Stanley and Genevieve had been prisoners of war in Germany during World War II. They moved to Rockford in 1950 and became U.S. citizens on April 11, 1956.

Genevieve worked at the Amerock Corporation in Rockford for 35 years. She was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and was active in the choir and many parish events, especially the annual Polish Fest. As a couple, Stanley and Genevieve enjoyed spending time with family and friends at many Polish picnics and receptions. They always enjoyed listening to Polish music and dancing a good polka. More recently, she cherished the friendships she made with the staff of the Solon Care Center during her stay and enjoyed her frequent visits with family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Genevieve is survived by her son, Dr. Richard (Cathy) Skotowski of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren, Sarah (Kyle) Pittman, Annie and Liz Skotowski; two brothers, Karl (Jadwiga) Marcinkowski, Poland and Stanley (Helen) Marcinkowski, Rockford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley, on Jan. 1, 2006; and two sisters, Wanda Domanski and Kornelia Gosciniak.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the kind and loving staff at the Solon Nursing Care Center for the fine care they provided Genevieve the past year and a half.
