Cole Corner: ‘Yoda soda,’ lightsabers highlight Star Wars week
March 15, 2014 · Cathy Boggs
Just a month ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was trying to decide a fun way spend spring break with our young library patrons when it hit me - let's do a "Star Wars" theme. ("Star Wars" music begins to play in the background.) So I've planned several activities I think will be fun.
On Monday, March 17, at 10 a.m., we will kick off our "Star Wars" week by showing "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." It is the animated theatrical film that started the weekly TV series. During the movie, we will have Yoda Soda and Padme Popcorn.
On Tuesday, March 18, at 10 a.m., we will host a special "Star Wars" Lego Club. We will build Lego Starfighters for Fleet Command and make miniature lightsabers for Lego galactic battles.
Finally, on Wednesday, March 19, at 10 a.m., the library will host Jedi Academy. Participants will receive a badge that will allow them to enter into the academy, where they will make a lightsaber and learn lightsaber skills that they will then apply in training. Once they've proven themselves in laser beam obstacles, endurance, controlling the force, and other maneuvers they will be awarded a Jedi Knight Certificate.
Please call in and register your "Star Wars" fan for these free events. We want to make sure we have enough supplies and food for everyone - 895-4271. You can register for one event or all three. Please specify which events when you call in. May the force be with you.
