‘Fizz, Boom, Read’ this summer
May 09, 2014

Plans for the summer reading program, "FIZZ, BOOM, READ" are under way at Cole Library, Mount Vernon's public library.

Kickoff party

The kickoff party at Hills Bank and Trust is Tuesday, May 20, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. There will be fun science activities, including games, experiments, and food. If you are unable to attend the kickoff, you can stop in the library and sign up at the first floor circulation desk after May 20.

Programs

Programs we are having this summer you won't want to miss are:

• Monday Movie Madness begins Monday, June 2, with "Despicable Me 2" at 10 a.m. in Room 108. There will be free popcorn and a drink courtesy of Mount Vernon Bank for each attendee.

• Summer Lego Club begins Tuesday, June 10, at 10 a.m. It will be an opportunity to make Lego creations with friends. They will be on display in the Children's Room.

• Wednesday workshops: Wednesday morning workshops are from 10 a.m. to noon. These workshops are geared to elementary age students. Due to the amount of prep and materials required for this program, you must call 895-4271 to reserve your spot. A list of the workshops can be found on our website, www.colelibrary.org

Hands on science

We are partnering with Cornell faculty for several fun hands-on science labs. Since these are in the works, check our library website or the newsletter to find out more as these events unfold.

Story time

Story time continues every Thursday morning at 9:30. We will be experiencing the sciences through stories, songs, games and crafts.
