Representing Iowa in tennis, Mount Vernon's Che Krumm earned a gold and silver medal at the National Special Olympics, held June 14-21 in New Jersey.

Krumm competed in mixed doubles and men's singles.

In singles play, Krumm played against a competitor from Florida in a best of three match. Krumm won the tie-breaker 11-10 to advance. For a gold medal, he swept a player from Pennsylvania in two sets and earned the championship.

In doubles, Krumm's partner was Dawn Meyers of Cedar Rapids. They suffered a first-round loss to a duo from Alabama, but bounced back to beat a team from South Carolina for third place and a bronze medal.
