Drum and bugle corps
to rehearse in Mount Vernon
One of the oldest young adult drum and bugle corps is coming to Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon High School band director Bernie Moore reports that this Sunday Mount Vernon will host the Boston Crusaders as the group prepares for a competition that night in Muscatine.
The Boston Crusaders group is composed of brass players, percussionists and color guard members under the age of 22 who travel more than 10,000 miles each summer to perform in more than 40 venues.
Moore said the Crusaders group will be in Mount Vernon from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. They will get some rest on the MVHS gym floor, then begin rehearsing on the school district campus around 9 a.m.
"You are encouraged to come out and watch this world-class band," Moore said.

Free triathlon clinic set
A free triathlon clinic will be held Saturdays, July 19 and 26, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Vernon pool. The events are a way for people to get some training and instruction in preparation for a youth triathlon scheduled for Aug. 2 in Mount Vernon.
People can attend one or both sessions. Participants should bring running shoes, bikes, helmets and swimsuits. Parental guidance is requested for children under 12.
