Lions sectional to be at Midland February 04, 2010 · Crystal Eskelsen
The Lisbon wrestling team finished the regular season with dual wins over Belle Plaine, 52-24, and English Valley, 76-6.
"It went all right," said Jamie Kamberling, Lisbon wrestling coach of the Wednesday, Jan. 27, battle.
The Lions are now 18-4 in dual meets this season and are currently ranked No. 9 in Class 1A in the dual team rankings.
Saturday, the Lions wrestle at Midland in their sectional meet against West Branch, Midland, North Cedar, Durant, Camanche, Tipton and Cascade. The top two teams qualify for the regional duals, to be held on Tuesday at East Buchanan.
The top two individuals at each weight qualify for districts the following Saturday, Feb. 13 at Durant.
"West Branch will be our main competition," Kamberling said. "We will have a full lineup at sectionals. We haven't seen Durant yet, we know they have a couple of good individuals."
At 145 pounds, Lisbon's Jesse Jamison may have one of the most competitive roads to districts. Jamison will be in the bracket with a wrestler from Tipton who he beat in the finals, 7-2, at the Midland Tournament a few weeks ago and with a wrestler from West Branch who beat Jamison earlier this season.
"It could be pretty competitive at that weight," Kamberling said. "There are a lot of good kids."
The Lions are poised to leave their best wrestling on the mat this Saturday at Midland, starting at noon.
"Things are looking in our favor right now," Kamberling said.
Lisbon had one ranked wrestler as of early this week - Mitch Montgomery at 215.
