WRESTLERS ADVANCE

Lisbon and Mount Vernon won their respective sectional titles Saturday - the Class 1A Lions at Midland and the Class 2A Mustangs at Vinton - to advance to the regional duals. And 12 total local wrestlers advanced to districts with top-two finishes in their weight classes (the top two district finishers at each weight advance to state).

Lisbon dominated its sectional competition with 211 points to runner-up West Branch's 171.5.

The following Lions advance to districts:

• Kolbi Kohl, champ at 119

• Zach West, runner up at 125

• Tait Simpson, champ at 135

• Jesse Jamison, runner up at 145

• Dacoda Ward, champ at 171

• Mitch Montgomery, champ at 215

• Tyler Smith, runner up at 285

For regional duals, Lisbon faces Alburnett at East Buchanan (Winthrop) 6 p.m. Tuesday night. The winner will face the winner of an East Buchanan vs. West Branch dual that evening for the chance to advance to the state dual team tourney.

Mount Vernon earned 201 points to edge out Solon (198) for the sectional title.

The following Mustangs earned district bids:

• Nelson Jerabek, runner up at 119

• David Zacharakis-Jutz, champ at 145

• Ryan Cox, runner up at 160

• Josh Haug, champ at 171

• Dillon Lass, runner up at 189

In regional dual action, Mount Vernon faces Independence at West Delaware (Manchester) Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The winner faces the winner of a Denver-Tripoli vs. Solon dual that evening for a chance to advance to the state dual team tourney.
