The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG) holds a Hawaiian-theme volunteer celebration in Mount Vernon Memorial Park Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. During the event, the CDG will recognize individuals and institutions with special honors. The honorees, featured below, are: Citizen of the Year - Nola Owens; Volunteer of the Year - Cheryl Russell; Committee of the Year: ZIP Code Day Committee; and Business of the Year - M & K Dust Control, Inc. In addition, the CDG is giving a special recognition to Mount Vernon's Save Our Fields project.
