The Mount Vernon-Lisbon girls' soccer team shut out Vinton-Shellsburg 4-0 and mercy ruled West Delaware 10-0 this past week. The Mustangs fell to Davenport Assumption and Burlington Saturday and lost a tough one to Dubuque Wahlert in overtime Monday night.

The following story appeared in the Sept. 25, 1980, Mount Vernon-Lisbon Sun Mount Vernon, famous for excellent football, wrestling and track teams, is now recognized the state over for its state champion frisbee team. Mount Vernon's "Blood and Guts " team, made up of John, Bill and Rob Niederhauser, Randy Osborn and Richard Simon, captured first place at the state "Guts " tournament held Aug. 17 in Ames.
